A.— ASTRON. Qui a rapport aux azimuts, qui les représente ou les mesure. Instrument azimutal, compas azimutal (Ac. 1835-1932).
SYNT. Cadran solaire azimutal. Cadran dont le style est vertical. Cercle azimutal. Cercle passant par la ligne verticale d'un lieu. Lunette azimutale. Lunette montée sur un pied articulé permettant le mouvement horizontal comme le mouvement vertical de l'instrument.
B.— MAR. Compas azimutal. ,,Boussole disposée par le moyen de pinnules, etc., pour observer des azimuths, des amplitudes et faire des relèvements`` (WILL 1831).

♦ Quantum azimutal :
• 1. La mécanique ondulatoire fit comprendre aussi l'absence de la composante centrale dans l'expérience de Stern et Gerlach. À ce que l'on appelait des orbites à un quantum azimutal (état fondamental de l'hydrogène, des atomes alcalins, ou d'argent) correspondent des fonctions d'ondes ou « orbitales » sans moment cinétique ni moment magnétique.
